Elden Ring is a dark fantasy action role-playing franchise from FromSoftware, created in collaboration between director Hidetaka Miyazaki and novelist George R. R. Martin. Martin lent his hand to the mythos of the Lands Between, while Miyazaki shaped its punishing combat and vast, open world. The first game was released in 2022 and won widespread acclaim, including Game of the Year honors.

The series is known for its demanding difficulty, its cryptic storytelling told through item descriptions and half-buried ruins, and a ruined world of demigods and broken oaths. Players rise as a Tarnished, chasing the shattered Elden Ring and the throne that waits beyond. Further releases have carried the name into new battles, but the heart of it remains the same: struggle, discovery, and what a fallen kingdom leaves behind.
