Diablo II

The gates of Hell swing open across Sanctuary in Blizzard North's dark-fantasy hack-and-slash, an action RPG whose endless loot hunts and Battle.net demon-slaying made it a genre landmark.

About

Diablo II is an action role-playing game developed by Blizzard North and published by Blizzard Entertainment, released on June 28, 2000 for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS. A dark-fantasy hack-and-slash, it follows the wanderer who once struck down the Lord of Terror, chasing the Dark Wanderer across Sanctuary while the forces of the Burning Hells gather behind him. Players choose a class, descend through procedurally generated wilderness and dungeons, and build a character around skills and the loot that falls.

Its randomly generated areas, deep item and skill systems, and Battle.net multiplayer kept players hunting demons and better gear for years, and the game is remembered as one of the most influential action RPGs ever made, shaping nearly every loot-driven game that followed.
