Diablo

Descend into the catacombs beneath Tristram, where the dead will not stay buried and the Lord of Terror is waiting. Blizzard's 1997 action role-playing game set a genre's foundations in blood.

About

Diablo is an action role-playing game developed by Blizzard North and published by Blizzard Entertainment, released on January 3, 1997 for Microsoft Windows, with versions later reaching Classic Mac OS and the PlayStation. Players choose a warrior, rogue, or sorcerer and follow the whispers of a ruined town down through the cathedral, fighting through randomly generated dungeons for gold, gear, and a way to the thing sleeping below.

The game is known for the darkness of its gothic world and for its click-driven combat, random loot, and multiplayer play, which shaped the action role-playing genre that followed. It is the first entry in the Diablo franchise. Tristram’s bells still ring for it.
