Castlevania Chronicles

The whip cracks and the candles burn: a Castlevania remake that first haunted Japan's Sharp X68000 computers, then returned on the original PlayStation.

About

A gothic platformer from Konami, released in Japan on July 23, 1993 for the Sharp X68000 home computer. It rebuilds the original Castlevania into sharper, more beautiful horror, sending a lone hunter up the tower stairs of Dracula’s castle with a whip in hand and holy water at the ready.

Years later it crossed over to the PlayStation, carrying its candlelit halls and stairway chandeliers to a wider audience. The game is remembered among Castlevania devotees as a rarity of the era — a loving, punishing retelling of the legend that started it all, frozen in the amber of a Japanese-only computer line before it was let loose again.
