About
Castlevania: The Adventure is a platformer developed and published by Konami for the Game Boy, released on October 27, 1989. It was the first entry in the Castlevania series built for Nintendo’s handheld, casting the player as a whip-wielding member of the Belmont line who must fight his way through Dracula’s castle alone.
The game is remembered for its deliberately heavy movement and for stripping the hero down to a bare whip, which grows stronger as he gathers upgrades rather than staying at full power from the start. Taking a hit costs him that strength, and the castle rarely grants a second chance. Time has been unkind to it — sluggish controls and sparse visuals set it apart from its console kin — yet it marked the moment the series first slipped into a pocket and dared players to carry the hunt with them.
