The whip cracks first. Konami's 1986 gothic action-adventure that sent a lone hunter into Dracula's castle and started one of gaming's longest-running series.

About

Castlevania is an action-adventure game developed and published by Konami, released in Japan on September 26, 1986 for the Famicom Disk System before reaching the Nintendo Entertainment System and, over the years, a long list of other platforms. It is the first entry in the Castlevania series.

The player takes up the whip of a vampire hunter and climbs through the halls and towers of Dracula’s castle, fighting through monsters and the castle’s masters before the count himself. Its gothic horror atmosphere, deliberate jumping, and memorable music made it a landmark of the NES era and the foundation of the Castlevania franchise.
