Diablo II: Lord of Destruction
The expansion that sent players up Mount Arreat against Baal, the last of the Prime Evils — and changed the face of Diablo II forever.
About
Diablo II: Lord of Destruction is an expansion for the action role-playing game Diablo II, developed by Blizzard North and published by Blizzard Entertainment on June 29, 2001 for Microsoft Windows, Classic Mac OS and macOS. The Worldstone’s guardian has fallen, and the hunt for Baal carries the player north to the barbarian lands of Mount Arreat, through new acts, new monsters and new depths.
Beyond the campaign, the expansion reshaped how the game was played. It added two new character classes, an expanded stash, the option to hire mercenaries, and the rune and runeword system at the heart of its item hunting. Many of its features went on to define the Diablo series and the broader loot-driven genre.
