StarCraft: Brood War
The expansion that turned StarCraft into a legend: Brood War dragged the Koprulu Sector deeper into war and gave rise to a competitive scene that outlived the game itself.
About
The war did not end when the Overmind fell. Released on December 18, 1998, StarCraft: Brood War is a real-time strategy expansion for StarCraft, developed by Blizzard Entertainment with Saffire and published by Blizzard for Microsoft Windows and Classic Mac OS. It continues the campaign where the original left off, as terran, protoss and zerg forces scramble for what remains of a shattered sector and old allies become liabilities.
Brood War added new units, new maps and new missions to each faction, sharpening the balance of a game already built for play against other people. That balance and the depth of its multiplayer made it a cornerstone of professional StarCraft competition, particularly in South Korea, where its top players became national figures. More than two decades on, it remains one of the most enduring expansions ever made.
