The hunter Samus Aran descends alone onto the planet ZDR, where something is waiting that has learned to hunt her back. Metroid Dread is the fear that has been chasing the series since 1986 finally catching up.
About
Metroid Dread is a 2021 action-adventure game in the Metroid series, developed by Nintendo EPD and MercurySteam and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch on October 8, 2021. A side-scrolling Metroidvania, it follows bounty hunter Samus Aran to the remote planet ZDR, where she is stalked by the invincible E.M.M.I. robots and uncovers a threat long thought buried. The title had been rumored and shelved for years before its release, making its arrival a moment fans of the series had all but given up on.
The game is known for the dread of its pursuit sequences, in which Samus can only run, hide, or briefly turn the tables, and for sharpening the exploration and combat of the modern Metroidvania into something faster and colder. It sold strongly and became one of the best-received entries in the franchise, praised as a return to form and as a conclusion to a story the series had been circling for decades.
