A lone bounty hunter descends to the ruined planet Zebes to reclaim a stolen infant Metroid, and the galaxy's fate rests on her arm cannon. The Super Nintendo's definitive action-adventure and the game the Metroidvania genre is named after.
About
Samus Aran returns to the caverns and corridors of Zebes in a hunt for the space pirates who took the last Metroid. The planet is a labyrinth, and every new weapon and ability opens it a little wider, so that exploration itself becomes the reward.
Super Metroid was released on March 19, 1994 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Nintendo R&D1 with Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. It is remembered as one of the finest games on the system, the peak of the Metroid series, and the template that an entire genre of interlocking, ability-gated worlds would be named for.
