About

Salt and Sanctuary is an action role-playing platformer released on March 15, 2016, developed and published by Ska Studios. Blending the punishing, deliberate combat and labyrinthine level design of the Souls games with side-scrolling platforming, it follows a lone sailor shipwrecked on a cursed island where a princess has vanished and the faithful gather salt to grow stronger. Salt is everything here: the currency of power, the mark of faith, and the thing you drop on the ground when you die.

Played across PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One, the game is drawn in a stark, hand-inked gothic style. Its sprawling map hides secret paths, fearsome bosses, and dozens of weapons and spells, while a deep skill tree lets you shape your character into anything from a knight to a mage. The name says it plainly, and the title has come to define the genre: Salt and Sanctuary is the touchstone of the Soulsvania.
