About

Path of Exile is a free-to-play action role-playing game developed and published by Grinding Gear Games, released for Microsoft Windows on October 23, 2013, with versions later following for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and macOS. It is set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast, where players take on the role of an exile cast out of their homeland and left to survive among ruins, cults and worse.

The game belongs to the hack-and-slash tradition, but it is known above all for the depth of its character building: the sprawling passive skill tree, the socketed skill gems that decide what a character can actually do, and a currency system built on items rather than gold. Definitive for the modern action role-playing game, and the first entry in the Path of Exile series.
